Smartlipo is the first and only laser lypolysis system to offer a revolutionary and minimally invasive procedure for the permanent removal of fat. Using a high powered laser, Smartlipo is a new laser body sculpting procedure with less downtime and side effects than traditional liposuction. One additional exciting benefit is a general skin tightening of the treatment area as well as fat removal.
A very small cannula (tube) approximately 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm in diameter and containing a laser fiber is inserted into the skin. The cannula is moved back and forth delivering laser energy directly to the fat cells, causing them to rupture and easily drain away. The laser energy also interacts with the dermis, resulting in collagen shrinkage. This shrinkage is a key difference from traditional liposuction, where fat is removed, resulting in loose, sagging skin in the treatment area. Due to the cannula's small size, Smartlipo is a minimally invasive procedure and can be performed under local anesthesia. The laser causes small blood vessels to coagulate immediately on contact, resulting in less bleeding, swelling and bruising, and a quicker recovery time than conventional liposuction. Because general anesthesia is unnecessary, the procedure is very safe, with only minimal side effects!
If you have areas of fat that will not respond to diet and exercise, then you are likely a great candidate for Smartlipo. Ideal candidates are in good health and have realistic expectations regarding the results of a Smartlipo treatment.
Smartlipo is ideal for treating areas of the face (jowls), neck, arms, breasts (gynecomastia), abdomen (stomach), torso (upper chest and back) hips, thighs, and buttocks. In short, most areas of loose, fatty skin that is bothersome and not responsive to exercise and diet.
For most patients, only one treatment is required. The session may last from 45 minutes to one hour for each area treated.
After the treatment you will need to wear a compression garment for several days to several weeks, depending on the body area being treated. Rest is recommended after the procedure, and activity may be resumed gradually. We do advise that you refrain from hot tubs or strenuous exercise for 2 weeks.
Results can be seen as soon as early as one to two days post-treatment, with continued improvement over several months.
Yes! Adults do not create new fat cells. When a person gains weight, fat cells expand. The Smartlipo procedure permanently removes a percentage of the fat cells in the treated area. Should you gain weight, most new fat will be deposited in areas where the procedure was not performed.
