Please note that not everyone is an ideal candidate for the Smartlipo procedure.  If you are, and if you elect to do this procedure, a treatment date is secured, after which arrangements for your post-procedure garment and prescription medications are made.

On the day of your procedure, we will finalize your treatment areas and mark and photograph them.  During the procedure, we keep you informed of our progress along the way.  It is not uncommon for patients to doze off or sleep during the procedure, and it generally takes 60 to 90 minutes per area to achieve an optimal outcome.  We do require that all patients have transportation home as the medications you take during the Smartlipo procedure may make you drowsy.

How does the Smartlipo Body Sculpting procedure work?

Smartlipo body sculpting is a minimally invasive procedure performed under local anesthesia in combination with one or two oral medications (for relaxation and discomfort).  Once the treatment area has been anesthetized, a very small cannula (tube) approximately 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm in diameter is inserted into the skin. This cannula, which contains the Smartlipo laser fiber, is moved back and forth in the treatment area.  Laser energy is delivered directly to the fat cells, causing them to rupture and drain away.

In addition to destroying fat cells, the laser energy also interacts with the dermis, resulting in collagen shrinkage. This shrinkage is a key departure from traditional liposuction, where only the fat is removed, leading to loose, sagging skin in the treatment area. The laser energy also causes small blood vessels to coagulate, resulting in less bleeding, swelling and bruising.  This means a quicker recovery time compared to other liposuction techniques. Because general anesthesia is unnecessary, the Smartlipo body sculpting procedure is very safe.

Am I a candidate for the Smartlipo Body Sculpting procedure?

If you have areas of fat that will not respond to smart eating choices and consistent exercise, then you may be an excellent candidate for Smartlipo body sculpting. Ideal candidates are in good health, have a positive body self image, and have realistic expectations about the outcome of a Smartlipo body sculpting procedure. 

What body areas can be treated with Smartlipo Body Sculpting?

Smartlipo is ideal for treating areas of the face (jowls), neck, chin, arms, breasts (gynecomastia), abdomen (stomach), torso (upper chest and back), hips, thighs, and buttocks.

How many procedures will I need?

Only one procedure is required for most individuals.  It can take 60 to 90 minutes per area

to achieve optimal results.

Do I have to do anything after the procedure?

You will need to wear a compression garment for several days to one week after the procedure, depending on the area(s) treated.  We do recommend several days of rest with a gradual resumption of activity.  You should refrain from hot tubs or strenuous exercise for 2 weeks.

When can I expect to see results?

You may see results as early as one to two days after the procedure, with continued improvement over several months.

Does Smartlipo Body Sculpting provide lasting results?

Yes.  Adults do not create new fat cells. When a person gains weight, fat cells expand, but they do not multiply. The Smartlipo body sculpting procedure permanently removes a percentage of the fat cells in the treated area. Should you gain weight, most new fat will be deposited in areas where the procedure was not performed
